Project Description: The Town of Clifton Forge has applied for reissuance of a permit for the public Clifton Forge Water Treatment Plant. The applicant proposes to release treated industrial wastewaters at a rate of 163,000 gallons per day into a water body. The facility proposes to release the treated industrial wastewaters into Smith Creek in Alleghany County in the Lower Jackson River/Wilson Creek/Karnes Creek watershed. A watershed is the land area drained by a river and its incoming streams. The permit will limit the following pollutants to amounts that protect water quality: physical and chemical properties, nutrients, solids, and inorganics.
