Project Description: Dragados USA, Inc. (dba) Chesapeake Tunnel Joint Venture has applied for the reissuance of a permit for the discharge of treated industrial wastewater, entrained stormwater, and non-contact equipment cooling wastewater. The discharge has a design flow of 0.72 million gallons per day (MGD). The facility proposes to release the treated industrial wastewater into the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach in the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean and Small Coastal watershed. A watershed is the land area drained by a river and its incoming streams. The permit will limit the following pollutants to amounts that protect water quality: nutrients, physical and chemical properties, solids, thermal, metals, inorganics, flow, and toxicity. Generated sludge from the treatment process is disposed of off-site to a controlled landfill.
