Public Notice

Title (Project Name): Public Notice: Chesapeake Bay Environmental Restoration and Protection Program, Section 510 Project, Middle Peninsula State Park

Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), along with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, is proposing a stabilization project along approximately 2,000 linear feet of York River shoreline in Middle Peninsula State Park, which is in Gloucester County. Through the Corps’ Section 510 program that provides design and construction assistance for water-resource protection projects, the Corps is proposing to remove existing shoreline structures, stabilize the shoreline, and restore wetlands and reefs. A sill and breakwater system is proposed to span the length of the previously modified shoreline area where sand fill and native vegetation are proposed to be incorporated behind to create a natural slope and beaches. In the existing marsh areas, sand fill and native vegetation are proposed to restore and enhance the marsh system. Additionally, subtidal, offshore reef habitat will be placed parallel to the marsh shoreline, terminating approximately at the start of the breakwater and sill system. The proposed activity is subject to review for consistency with the enforceable policies of the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program.
