Notice Purpose: To seek public comment on a draft permit from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the withdrawal of ground water in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

Public Comment Period: November 13, 2024 – December 13, 2024

Name and Location of Water Withdrawal: Nomini Bay Farms; Parcel #36F-F, Montross, VA 22520

Project Description: Aqua Virginia, Inc. has applied for a reissuance of a permit for a non-municipal public water supply. The permit would authorize the applicant to withdraw a maximum of 5,000,000 gallons per year and 910,000 gallons per month from the Aquia aquifer and Potomac aquifer. The ground water withdrawal will support a non-municipal public water supply for the Nomini Bay Farms subdivision. The top of the Aquia aquifer at the proposed withdrawal site was determined to be 340 feet below land surface The top of the Potomac aquifer at the proposed withdrawal site was determined to be 485 feet below land surface. An aquifer is a body of rock or layer of sediment in the ground in which ground water is stored and transported. DEQ has made a tentative decision to issue the permit.

Affected Area: Computer modeling predicts that the aquifer will not experience one foot of drawdown due to the withdrawal.
