Title (Project Name): Hatfield Gate Access Control Point at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
Description: The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) (the applicant), in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Army, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), proposes operational and safety improvements to the Hatfield Gate access control point at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington County, Virginia. The applicant intends to increase non-DOD passenger and commercial vehicle queuing capacity to and from Hatfield Gate, which will relieve congestion on Washington Boulevard and on the 2nd Street Bridge caused by vehicles waiting to enter. Proposed work includes the widening of the S. Washington Boulevard northbound exit ramp to 2nd Street to add a second exit lane, geometrical adjustments to the Washington Boulevard and 2nd Street Intersection and extension of the on-ramp to Washington Boulevard northbound for safer vehicle merging. Other miscellaneous work is proposed, including guardrail, signage, striping, pavement resurfacing and drainage improvements. The project is located on both federal land and within VDOT right-of-way. The proposed activity is subject to review for consistency with the enforceable policies of the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program.
