Project Description: RWSA has applied for a permit for the Crozet Water Supply Project. The project is located on the existing Beaver Creek Reservoir at 1525 Browns Gap Turnpike in Charlottesville, Virginia 22901. The permit will allow the applicant to upgrade and expand the existing water supply system through construction of a new water intake in the Beaver Creek Reservoir, a pumping station, spillway, principal spillway rise modifications, a permanent road crossing, and a raw water transmission main from the pumping station to the Crozet water treatment plant. The withdrawals will be used for municipal water supply. The proposed activity would affect 0.25 acre of open water, and 310 linear feet of stream channel. The activity proposed in the permit will affect the Beaver Creek Reservoir and Beaver Creek in the James watershed. A watershed is the land area drained by a river and its incoming streams. DEQ’s preliminary decision is to issue the permit.
