Moores and Mill Creeks community meeting for water quality study

  • Date: 10/19/2021 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

DEQ is hosting a community meeting to discuss the development of a cleanup plan called a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for Moores and Mill Creeks in Rockbridge County. Approximately 9 miles of each waterbody is considered impaired for failing to support the state's benthic water quality standard. This standard is intended to protect the aquatic life designated use, which states that all of the Commonwealth’s waterways will support a diverse and abundant population of aquatic life.

The study will determine the most likely pollutant(s) responsible for the impairments, and recommend pollutant reductions to meet a TMDL for the impaired streams. An advisory committee to assist in development of this TMDL will be established. Persons interested in assisting should notify the DEQ contact person by Nov. 18, 2021.

Meeting date: Tues., Oct. 19, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Bank Barn, McCormick Farm/Shenandoah Valley Agriculture Research & Extension Center, 128 Cyrus McCormick Cir, Raphine, VA
Note: In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be held on October 20, 2021 at the same time and location
For questions, comments, or to express interest in participating on the advisory committee, contact:
Nesha McRae, Valley Regional Office by email at nesha.mcrae@DEQ.Virginia.gov or phone at (540) 574-7850
