The Coastal Geospatial and Education Mapping System (GEMS) is:

  1. A gateway to Virginia’s coastal resource data and maps, coastal laws and policies and facts on coastal resource values with direct links to collaborating agencies responsible for current data.

  2. A growing inventory of water and land based natural resources, conservation planning tools, and planning examples that can help us to protect Virginia’s coastal ecosystems.

  3. A tool to promote community involvement and environmental education.

  4. More than just a map.  Version 4 includes a new mapping interface with powerful new functionalities and a growing collection of story maps.
